Marcello Lippi released his roster for the upcoming friendly with Cameroon in Monaco on Wednesday evening. He discussed Alessandro Nesta, Mario Balotelli, Amauri and Leonardo in comments with the Milan sports daily, La Gazzetta dello Sport.
Absences
Gigi Buffon, Alberto Gilardino and Vincenzo Iaquinta are injured. Giuseppe Rossi was not selected due to compassionate leave after the death of his father, Fernando. Alessandro Del Piero appears to be out of the Azzurri set up. As you will see, Alessandro Nesta of AC Milan refused a return to the Azzurri at this time. Francesco Totti of AS Roma, also injured, has been rumoured to make a return with South Africa on the horizon.

Leonardo Bonucci of Bari, Andrea Cossu of Cagliari and Salvatore Sirugu of Palermo received their first call-ups. Marco Borriello of AC Milan received his first call-up in the Lippi era.

COVERCIANO (Firenze), 1 marzo 2010 - Alessandro Nesta dice no a un ritorno in Nazionale. Lo ha riferito il c.t. Marcello Lippi, nel primo giorno di ritiro in vista di Italia-Camerun. "Mi ha detto, credo in maniera definitiva, che non se la sente. Mi dispiace, volevo dare una scossa, ma rispetto la sua decisione".
su balotelli — "Spero che Balotelli sia determinante mercoledì con l'Under 21 visto che contro l'Ungheria è un match difficile. All'Inter stanno portando avanti un percorso importante per far crescere questo giovane che in futuro sarà utile sia all'Inter che alla Nazionale".
su amauri — "Di Amauri ne parlerò tra qualche giorno, perchè diventerà italiano solo allora. Solo quando sarà italiano, verrà tenuto sotto osservazione come tutti gli altri italiani. Mi riferisco a Toni, Gilardino e Rossi". Il passaporto di Amauri arriverà proprio mercoledì, il giorno di Italia-Camerun.
su leonardo — Che aveva chiesto particolare attenzione per i convocati milanisti in maglia azzurra. "Voglio ricordare che da novembre fino al 23 maggio ho solo questa partita per poter osservare i ragazzi, non faccio considerazioni sul fatto che sabato si giochino Fiorentina-Juventus e Roma-Milan. Alcuni giocatori giocheranno un solo tempo, ma vi assicuro che altri giocheranno 90'. Spero che questa cosa la capiscano gli allenatori di queste squadra".

Alessandro Nesta said no to a return with the Azzurri. Marcello Lippi, the national team manager, referenced his decision in the first day of training camp before the friendly with Cameroon.
"He told me, I believe in a definitive manner, that he is not feeling up to it. I'm sorry, I wanted to shake him up, but respect his decision."
On Mario Balotelli of Inter Milan
"I hope that Balotelli will be a factor on Wednesday with the Under 21 seeing that the match with Hungary will be difficult. At Inter Milan, they are moving forward in an important way to develop this young man who in the future will be helpful both to Inter and to the national team."
On Amauri of Juventus (A Brazilian who has applied for Italian citizenship.)
"I will talk about Amauri in a few days because he will only attain Italian citizenship at that time. Only when he will become Italian, will he come under observation just like all other Italian players. I refer to Luca Toni, Alberto Gilardino and Giuseppe Rossi."

Leonardo had asked for special consideration of Milan players (Bonera, Borriello, Gattuso and Pirlo) selected for the national team.
"I want to remember that from last November to May 23, I only have this match to observe the players. I don't take into consideration that Fiorentina plays Juventus and Roma faces Milan next Saturday. Some players will only play a half on Wednesday, but I assure you that others will play the entire 90 minutes. I hope that managers of these teams understand this."
